Why Doesn’t LivePlan Offer an API?

1 min. read Updated July 16, 2026

At LivePlan, our goal is to provide a secure, reliable, and easy-to-use platform for business planning. While LivePlan does offer an MCP connector, we do not currently offer a Application Programming Interface (API) for external integrations. This decision is based on our commitment to data security, platform stability, and user experience.

Key Reasons LivePlan Does Not Offer an API:

1.

Protecting Your Data Security and Privacy

Your financial data is sensitive, and keeping it secure is our top priority. APIs can introduce additional risks by exposing data to external systems. By not offering an API, LivePlan maintains tighter control over data access, ensuring your information stays safe.

2.

Ensuring Platform Stability and Reliability

Managing an API requires significant resources to monitor, update, and maintain compatibility with third-party tools. By focusing on internal functionality, we ensure LivePlan remains stable, reliable, and consistently high-performing

3.

Keeping LivePlan Simple and Easy to Use

LivePlan is designed to be accessible to business owners of all backgrounds, not just those with technical expertise. APIs often require coding knowledge and management, which could add complexity. By keeping everything within LivePlan, we ensure a seamless experience for all users.

4.

Maintaining High-Quality Standards

By controlling all features within LivePlan, we can ensure they work as expected and meet our high standards. APIs could introduce inconsistencies or unexpected changes that might impact the accuracy of your business planning and forecasting.

5.

LivePlan Offers an MCP Connector

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets AI assistants connect directly to the tools and data they need to help you. Instead of copying and pasting information between your business software and an AI chat window, an MCP connector creates a live link between the two. The AI can read your data, take actions on your behalf, and keep everything in sync — all within the flow of a conversation.

LivePlan now offers a MCP connector

The LivePlan MCP connector gives AI assistants direct access to your company data — your business plan, financial forecast, scenarios, and more. That means you can ask your AI assistant to review your plan, update a revenue line, build out a new scenario, or walk you through where your forecast stands — and it happens in LivePlan, not just in the chat window.
